FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What should we wear for a family session outdoors?

I think you should choose what feels most like you. I’m not a stylist, but natural and earthy tones usually look beautiful in outdoor sessions. Try to avoid large prints or logos, and be careful with strong reds, especially during the colder seasons, as they can emphasize redness in the skin.

It’s lovely to coordinate colors as a family, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to dress the same. I recommend checking Pinterest and searching for “what to wear to a family photoshoot” for inspiration. You’ll find plenty of ideas that might suit your family perfectly.

How and when do we pay for the session?

You don’t need to bring any money to the session. I send an invoice after you’ve made your image selections, and you’ll have two weeks to pay. For the invoice and your online gallery, I’ll need your email address and home address. The images in the gallery are watermarked and cannot be downloaded until payment has been completed.

Where and when does the session take place?

My schedule is often flexible since I work according to the weather. If you have something specific that determines the time, such as work or a ceremony, we’ll of course book an exact time. Otherwise, I check the weather forecast a few days before and plan accordingly. If we’re shooting in the evening, we usually aim for close to sunset when the light is soft and beautiful. On cloudy days, we can photograph earlier in the day. During summer, I avoid the harsh midday sun and look for open shade instead.

In winter, it’s the opposite. We usually shoot around late morning or midday when there’s enough light. We’ll stay in touch about the schedule as the forecast becomes clearer, so it’s best to keep most of the day open. You’re welcome to choose the location yourself. If you don’t have a preference, I often use beautiful natural areas near central Porvoo. If the location is farther away, a small travel fee may apply.

Do you have a studio?

Yes! I have a natural light studio. However, I prefer photographing families and children outdoors where there’s more freedom to move, explore and play. The studio is especially suitable for newborn and boudoir sessions.

Can we buy a gift card?

Absolutely. I offer both printed and digital gift cards. Let me know the amount you’d like, along with the recipient’s name, email address and mailing address. Gift cards are valid for one year from the date of purchase. Please remind the recipient to book early, as the most popular times, especially summer and weekends, tend to fill up quickly.

What happens if it rains or it’s extremely cold?

All sessions are weather dependent. If it rains, we reschedule. If we can’t find a new suitable time, we cancel. In very cold weather, my fingers don’t work properly, so I have a temperature limit of around –10°C for regular sessions.

Can you edit away bruises or scratches?

Small bumps and scratches are often part of childhood, but I can retouch minor marks in individual images if needed. Extensive retouching takes time and may involve an additional fee.

Should we bring props?

If you’d like to bring something, feel free! It could be a favorite toy, your pet, flowers, or something meaningful to you. We also create beautiful images without props, letting nature and your connection be the focus. Fun ideas include bubbles, books, balls, or a cozy blanket. I also have some small props you’re welcome to borrow. If bringing balloons, I recommend simple round helium balloons rather than foil numbers, which can look awkward in the wind.

Can we ask you not to publish our photos?

Yes, that’s absolutely possible. However, showing my work is important for my business, so I always appreciate being able to share at least a few images, even anonymously. If you prefer to stay completely offline, I fully understand and respect that.

We live in the Helsinki area. Can we book a session closer to home?

Yes, especially during the off-season. Summer tends to be busier, but with early booking it’s often possible. Travel time is added as an additional fee.

What should we think about before a newborn session?

Try to arrive with a well-fed and sleepy baby. Keep clothing and diapers loose beforehand to avoid marks on the skin. Dress in layers yourself, as the studio will be warm. Bring everything your baby might need for feeding breaks. If you have a specific style in mind, let me know in advance so I can prepare. Siblings are welcome. Bringing snacks or entertainment for them is a good idea. Most of the session time is spent soothing the baby to sleep. Once asleep, I work efficiently. The ideal age for newborn photos is around 4 to 10 days old, so please contact me as soon as your baby is born.
